Matthew Rickard studied at the University of Surrey and the Royal Academy of Music where he specialised in piano accompaniment, his teachers including Michael Dussek, Clive Williamson and Graeme Humphrey. He currently enjoys a busy career as soloist, chamber musician and accompanist.
Matthew has recorded seven CDs for EM Records with violinist Rupert Marshall-Luck and a disc of chamber music by John Pickard for the Toccata Classics label, some of which have been featured on BBC4 TV and BBC Radio 3. Matthew has also performed live on BBC Radio 3's "In Tune" programme and has devised and frequently performs in a concert series at St Peter's Church in Old Woking, where he is also organist.
As well as being the much valued accompanist at HCS, Matthew is also currently accompanist to award-winning Farnham Youth Choir. As an orchestral pianist and accompanist he has worked with many other groups including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Moscow City Ballet, Black Cat Opera, Constanza Chorus, Genesis Chorale, Guildford Opera, Oxshott Choral Society, Royal Free Music Society and Rushmoor Choir. He currently teaches the piano at Longacre Preparatory School in Shamley Green as well as having a private teaching practice in Woking.
